Dimensional changes induced by C-S-H decalcification, supposed to occur when high degree of carbonation is achieved, was investigated in parallel to the drying shrinkage, using different shape and size’s Ordinary Portland Cement and slag blended cement hardened specimens. Simple experimental methods to measure the dimensional change were evaluated and it was possible to verify the complexity of the shrinkage induced by carbonation and to identify that internal humidity is a key parameter to be considered, as important as the chemical composition of the cementitious material.
